Founders Toby Yap, Leigh Morgan, Tyson Goldsack and Michael Brinkley woke up to the realisation that it should be possible to lead a healthy life while also achieving their daily goals in a high-pressure, fast-paced work and social environment.
“I was going to bed each night with 1000 different ideas, problems and actions going around in my head. That, plus exhaustion from international travel for work, meant I was sleeping badly and not performing to the best of my potential during the day,” says Toby.
The team began researching functional foods and discussing the concept of creating a product that could meet these needs, without any unnatural side-effects.
“With a long background in the wine industry, it’s very easy to reach for a glass of red after a stressful day, and during working hours there are any number of carb-heavy temptations to get you through the afternoon – but this isn’t the path to a healthy body and mind. I’ve always been very open about the struggles I’ve had with depression and anxiety, we just felt there had to be a better way,” says Leigh.
The final addition to the Utonic team was Collingwood Football Club dietitian Dr Emily Walker whose scientific expertise assisted in the development of a truly functional beverage range.
“We wanted to come up with a system to manage stress and anxiety, boost positive energy and motivation, and heal fatigue. Bringing Emily into the picture helped us to pinpoint the most scientifically beneficial formulations,” says Tyson.
